1. What is AdBlue?
AdBlue is a very pure urea solution used in the new Euro 4 and Euro 5 trucks with SCR technology.
AdBlue is used by all truck manufacturers and its quality must strictly correspond quality standard
DIN 70 070.
2. What is SCR sytem and how it works?
SCR (angl. “Selective Catalytic Reduction”) – selective exhaust gas purification system using a catalyst. The system is simple but very effective. Exhaust gas cleaning system consists of a catalyst, dispenser, nozzle, and the
AdBlue fluid tank. The exhaust gases are directed to the selective catalyst. At the same time a certain quantity of
AdBlue is injected into catalyst. During the chemical reaction NOx
(nitrogen oxide) gases and particulate matter (soot) are divided into
totally harmless substances - water vapor and nitrogen.
3. What is AdBlue consumption?
Most truck manufacturers declare that the Euro 4 trucks use average 3 - 4%, the EURO 5 5 - 6% of the
AdBlue from consumption of diesel. This is approximately 1.5 liters per 100 kilometers. There are several factors that determine the quantity of consumption of
AdBlue - the fuel quality and engine operating mode (load). In some cases, for example using the "russian" diesel and running the heavy loaded truck, the
AdBlue consumption can increase up to 7 - 8% from diesel consumption.
4. What can happen to a truck if it’s going without AdBlue?
Truck catalyst is designed so that the correct operation of the truck, i.e. using the
AdBlue
liquid, it will serve both as far as truck goes. However, after stopping the use of AdBlue, unburned particulate matter (soot) shut catalyst. Eventually a so-called "plug" forms in the catalyst and it does not pass the exhaust gas. As a result, engine power reduces and fuel costs grow. Also, for a long time without the use of AdBlue, a catalyst can overheat and start decay. As well as your truck does not take the EURO 4 and EURO 5 standard.
